Today I received this email newsletter from Obama for America. Unfortunately this beautiful mug, with images of president Barack Obama as well as his birth certificate, seems to be only available for American citizens who donate to the Obama campaign. Well, the story in the newsletter is interesting enough. Here it comes. - Ytzen

Let me introduce you to Jerome Corsi.
This week he released a new book that the publisher says will be a bestseller "of historic proportions."
The title is "Where's the Birth Certificate?" -- yes, really.
Corsi's work is a greatest-hits reel of delusions, ranging from 9/11 conspiracies to claiming that there is an infinite supply of oil in the Earth's core. In 2008, he published a book about Barack Obama claiming, among other things, that he (a) is a secret Muslim; (b) is secretly anti-military; (c) secretly dealt drugs; and (d) secretly supported terrorist actions when he was eight years old. So many secrets!
FactCheck.org called Corsi's work "a mishmash of unsupported conjecture, half-truths, logical fallacies and outright falsehoods."
There's really no way to make this stuff completely go away. The only thing we can do is laugh at it -- and make sure as many other people as possible are in on the joke.
So let's just do this -- get your Obama birth certificate mug here:
Last year, the President said, "I can't spend all of my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead."
This is about as close as we can get.
If the facts can't make these ridiculous smears go away, we can at least have a little fun with it.
And then we'll get back to the important work of supporting the President as he tackles real problems like high gas prices, the deficit, and unemployment.

Michelle and Charlotte
Bij mooi weer ga ik een feestje organiseren in mijn achtertuin. Het was een ideetje van mijn goede vriendin Michelle, die mij vandaag onderstaande email stuurde.

I am thrilled to make sure you are the first to hear some very exciting news. Charlotte, North Carolina, will host the 46th Democratic National Convention in 2012.
Charlotte is a city marked by its southern charm, warm hospitality, and an "up by the bootstraps" mentality that has propelled the city forward as one of the fastest-growing in the South. Vibrant, diverse, and full of opportunity, the Queen City is home to innovative, hardworking folks with big hearts and open minds. And of course, great barbecue.
Barack and I spent a lot of time in North Carolina during the campaign -- from the Atlantic Coast to the Research Triangle to the Smoky Mountains and everywhere in between. Barack enjoyed Asheville so much when he spent several days preparing for the second Presidential debate that our family vacationed there in 2009.
And my very first trip outside of Washington as First Lady was to Fort Bragg, where I started my effort to do all we can to help our heroic military families.
All the contending cities were places that Barack and I have grown to know and love, so it was a hard choice. But we are thrilled to be bringing the convention to Charlotte.
We hope many of you can join us in Charlotte the week of September 3rd, 2012. But if you can't, we intend to bring the spirit of the convention -- as well as actual, related events to your community and even your own backyard.

Reünie Streeklyceum Ede
Op 16 april 2011 van 9.00 tot 14.00 uur houdt 't Streek in Ede een reünie. Dit heeft de school onlangs aan mij bevestigd. Het Christelijk Streeklyceum Ede (CSLE) werd in 1960 opgericht en bestond in 2010 vijftig jaar. Tegenwoordig is het de locatie Bovenbuurtweg (BBW) van een grotere fusieschool. De reünie was al eerder aangekondigd, maar in 2010 is het er niet meer van gekomen. "Wij denken in schooljaren, zoals u merkt", aldus Havo-teamleider Wilfred Nep. Hij schreef mij dat men zich binnenkort kan aanmelden via de speciale lustrumwebsite: http://www.lustrumbbw.nl/. Het wachten is op meer informatie.
Aanvulling/wijziging 01.02.11:
In een nieuwe vooraankondiging noemt 't Streek andere tijden voor de reünie:
"In het kader van het 50-jarig jubileum van de locatie Bovenbuurtweg wordt er op zaterdag 16 april 2011 een reünie georganiseerd voor alle oud-docenten en oud-leerlingen van onze locatie. Nog deze maand wordt bekend gemaakt hoe men zich kan aanmelden voor de reünie.Het programma loopt van 10.30 uur door tot 15.30 uur. Nadere informatie over de verdere invulling van de dag volgt nog."

2010
2010 blijft toch een mooi jaar. 2011 vind ik maar niks. Al heb ik genoten van alle eentjes op 1.1.11 en 11.1.11. En iemand vrolijkte mij op met de gedachte dat we ook nog 11.11.11 krijgen. Drie elven op een rij. Maar goed, ik merk dat ik 2010 toch mooier vind.
Zò gevoelig schijn ik te zijn voor mooie getallen. Want in werkelijkheid was 2010 een rampjaar. Persoonlijk heeft het afgelopen jaar in het teken gestaan van de ziekte en het overlijden van mijn jongere broer Johan. In augustus 2009 werd bij hem kanker boven zijn rechter knie vastgesteld en enkele maanden en vele onderzoeken later bleek de ziekte al uitgezaaid te zijn naar zijn longen en later naar zijn rug. Hij heeft een half jaar bij mij gewoond, op een ziekenhuisbed in de woonkamer, nog hoopvol revaliderend na een beenamputatie. Maar vanaf april ging zijn situatie achteruit, verbleef hij in verschillende klinieken en in de zomer werd hij opgenomen in hospice Norschoten in Barneveld, waar hij 6 september overleed.
Vanwege de ziekte van mijn broer heb ik het afgelopen jaar geen grote projecten aangepakt en heeft mijn werk op een lager pitje gestaan. Ook aan dit weblog en deze site heb ik weinig gedaan. Eind 2009 stond ik op het punt om over te stappen naar een nieuw CMS (content management system) en de site volledig om te bouwen, maar die plannen heb ik in de ijskast gezet. Op dit moment ben ik bezig mijn plannen te heroverwegen en in de loop van het jaar zullen we wel zien in welke richting dat gaat. Elke stap staat wel in een ander perspectief. Oòk het perspectief dat alles zomaar ineens afgelopen kan zijn.
